Can I Get Quotes to Ship a Semi-Truck?

Semi 1In today’s auto transport industry, you can get quotes to ship just about anything from anywhere, to anywhere in the United States, and that’s saying something. One type of vehicle that has seen a pretty significant rise in popularity over the past few years has been the semi-truck.

Though they go by many different names, the semi-truck for purposes of this blog post is the cab of many of the giant 18-wheelers that you see with huge 53′ trailers behind them. The semi truck we’re talking about is just the cab, or the engine, or the front – you can’t ship the trailer. There’s a reason why the trailers are detachable, namely because if you’re looking to ship a commercial trailer like that with a car transport company you need to rethink what you’re trying to accomplish.

Many times customers need to ship their truck (the part with the engine, minus the trailer – I cannot stress this enough) because it’s broken down somewhere, or they can’t find any freight in their area and need to get out, or they’re selling it and don’t want to put the miles on.

Honestly, there’s too many possible reasons to try to name the most commonly used one, so let’s just say that yes, people do look to ship semi-trucks, no, they aren’t kidding, and yes, we can help you with that. Our online quote form doesn’t have an option for a semi-truck, as it’s not a very common thing to want to ship (it’s like hiring a boat to ship a boat – it’s weird, but it happens because there’s always someone out there who needs that particular service). That said, when you fill out our form, make sure to mark it as an “other” under both the make and model.

So yes, you can get quotes to ship a semi-truck, but they aren’t going to be cut-and-dry like they would be with a standard automobile. Auto transport companies can haul anything, but they need to find a company that can actually, physically haul the vehicle you’re trying to ship, and that can take time.

Shipping a semi-truck requires a flatbed transport trailer, but more than that it requires a big car transport trailer. Semi-trucks are used to haul freight, so you’re basically asking a freight hauler to haul another freight hauler. Yes, it’s confusing when it’s worded that way, but you can see what I mean when I say that you’ll need a big truck to haul a big truck.

Is it easy? No. And it likely won’t be cheap, either, so keep that in mind. We recommend filling out our free quote form to get a quote ane then speak to an agent in order to discuss your shipment in more detail. Keep in mind that nNon-standard auto transport methods require non-standard quoting practices. So if you’re trying to ship a semi-truck not only should you have an ample budget, you should also have an ample amount of time, because you’re going to be doing some waiting. It’s going to be difficult to find a carrier willing to ship something like a semi-truck, but it’s doable. You just need patience.

Make sure to fill out our free online quote request form. We do recommend you contact us at our toll-free number, however. That way, you get in touch with an agent who can more accurately price your shipment. They’ll likely need information on the dimensions of the truck and other factors that we may not have thought to include here. Either way, no matter what you’re shipping, trust American Auto Shipping to get it moved.
