Across the Map: Minnesota Vehicle Shipping Services

Across the Map: Minnesota Vehicle Shipping ServicesThe state of Minnesota is the 12th largest state in the U.S. in terms of total area, yet ranks 21st in total population and 31st in population density. Much of Minnesota’s population lives in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area (colloquially known as the Twin Cities).

The Twin Cities region is the center of culture, commerce, business, trade, industry, education, finance, banking, healthcare – you name it, it’s likely in the Twin Cities region.

Minnesota is home to over 5.4 million, but roughly 3.4 million residents live in the Twin Cities region, easily making it the cheapest and most popular auto transportation location in the state of Minnesota.

Agriculture and forestry, long mainstays of the economy, are still thriving; with crops and timber being so abundant, the city – which has manufacturing – was not hit as hard by the deindustrialization of the U.S. during the 1970’s and 80’s.

Minnesota is far from the easiest area to transport a vehicle to, primarily because of its location.

Sitting far north near the Great Lakes, Minnesota can be a problematic area for transport companies to ship into. Its generally rural outside of the Twin Cities, which means auto shippers aren’t going to want to run routes through much of the state because there’s no new loads in the middle of nowhere (usually, anyway).

Transporters prefer to run routes through major cities and their surrounding metro areas, and to do that they use the Interstate Highway System. Minnesota is serviced by I-35 and I-90, with the two intersecting near the small city of Albert Lea, near the Minnesota/Iowa border.

Both of these are popular in areas, but not in Minnesota – however, if you are shipping to Minnesota on a budget, you can probably save a bit by shipping into the Twin Cities and then driving it wherever you need it to go.
