The city of Paducah is located in northwestern Kentucky, specifically in the most western part of the state known as Jackson’s Purchase.

With a population of just 25,000, it is hardly a major metropolitan area, though it does sit as the center of the Paducah Micropolitan area, which includes nearby McCracken, Ballard and Livingston counties, as well as Massac County in southern Illinois.

Paducah’s location at the confluence of the Tennessee and Ohio Rivers made it an important trading post. The city itself was founded by William Clark, of Lewis and Clark fame, and its ties to the river – as well as the building of the Illinois Central Railroad – made Paducah a major transportation hub.

It has maintained its small stature over the years and today twenty whole blocks of the downtown area are registered national historic landmarks. Read more about Paducah at the city’s official website.

However, its small size is somewhat of a drawback when it comes to automobile transportation services to or from the city. Though reliant heavily on the railroads and river transportation even today, Paducah does not see a lot of overland traffic – though more than some, considering I-24 runs right through the heart of the city.

This makes it easier for auto shippers to get in and out of the Paducah area, and really helps for routes heading into Nashville, which is where I-24 terminates. So Paducah does see its fair share of auto transportation services, though there aren’t a whole lot of people actually transporting cars into and out of the city itself.

The surrounding area is highly rural and sparsely developed, which can actually increase auto transport prices due to the lack of major cities in the area. Read more about transporting a vehicle to Paducah here.

You should keep these facts in mind if you are searching for auto transportation services to or from Paducah, and you should also expect slightly longer pickup windows due to the fact that there are, on the whole, relatively few people heading there – which means relatively few auto transporters running routes through there.

Prices may be a bit higher, as mentioned, but on the whole the city’s size and location are not large enough deterrents for auto shippers to go there considering the interstate runs right through the middle of the city.
