Auto Transport Services to Cranston, RI
Cranston is a city located in Providence County, Rhode Island and is currently the third-largest city in the state by population, home to over 80,000 total residents. Today part of the Providence Metropolitan Statistical Area, Cranston was first established in 1638 when the Pawtuxet Purchase was finalized. With European settlers getting huge swaths of land from the local Native Americans, settlement started quickly, and by the mid-18th century Cranston had grown enough to be incorporated as a town. Once much larger than it is today, over the years other, larger cities, particularly Providence, have annexed areas of the town, and by the 1910’s Cranston residents had had enough, and decided to incorporate as a city. Today, Cranston spans just under 30 square miles, though it once laid claim to hundreds.
Cranston is located just south of Providence, the largest city in the state, and just north of Warwick, the second-largest city in the state. This makes Cranston one of the more popular areas in Rhode Island to ship a vehicle from or to considering the two largest cities in the state are located literally just north and just south of it. Cranston can make for a good alternative if you’re shipping to Providence, as carriers wouldn’t have to travel so far north. One of the biggest drawbacks to shipping a vehicle into or out of Cranston is the fact that it’s in Rhode Island. No disrespect to the state of Rhode Island, of course; rather, the state is located in New England, which isn’t as popular with auto transportation companies due to its isolation in the far northeast and the lack of popularity among customers.
It really helps that both prices and carrier availability are better into and out of Cranston than other areas of New England, namely because it sits along the route of Interstate 95, and also one of its auxiliaries, I-295. I-95 runs through eastern Cranston, and I-295 runs through western Cranston, giving carriers who service the area easy ways to get to wherever it is their customers need them to go. Of course, you may be able to save some time and money by shipping to someplace further south, though there aren’t really that many areas that car shippers would stop in. Maybe New London, but that’s a hundred miles away and a brutal drive if you’re not used to it.
Weather can also play a role in your price, particularly in Rhode Island where winter weather can leave motorists stranded and isolated and the roads unpassable for days thanks to heavy snowfall. During the summer months is when you’ll likely find the cheapest prices, as the roads are clear, there are more people moving in and out of the region and in the U.S. in general (summer is the busy season in the auto transport industry), and there generally are more carriers will to run more routes than in the winter. Average snowfall per month is about 6.5 inches, and daily highs in the winter months barely reach out of the low thirties, with lows often dropping down into single digits. This can wreak havoc for car transporters, so keep that in mind.
