It is currently home to a population of over 17,000 residents and is a part of the Burlington, Vermont Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is the largest in the state and anchored by the largest city in the state as well. Colchester is widely considered to be the most prominent suburb of Burlington, and ranks as the fourth-largest city in the state despite being home to such a small total population.
