Auto Transport Tips: 1/4 Tank of Gas Only

Auto Transport TipsIf you drive a car you know how expensive gasoline is, and you also know that prices probably aren’t going to be dropping any time soon. Drivers of logistics trucks have to contend with this as well, only the prices they pay are a lot higher because they’re driving huge trucks with huge fuel tanks that cost a lot – and take forever – to fill.

In this helpful Auto Transport Tips article we’re going to discuss fuel a bit – well, why you should make sure not to have a whole lot of it in your vehicle when it comes time to transport it, anyway.

As mentioned fuel is expensive, but did you know that it’s also quite heavy? Its weight really doesn’t play a factor in your vehicle’s fuel economy, but it can for an auto shipping truck, as more weight means lower fuel economy for the transport truck, which in turn means more money spent on fuel and less time driving.

Having about a quarter of a tank of gas in your vehicle is going to make things a lot easier for everyone and everything involved in your shipment. For starters, it’s going to lower the weight of your vehicle, which is a great thing when you’re transporting it as lighter vehicles typically cause less problems at weigh stations.

As shippers have to stop at just about every open weigh station they pass, making sure that your vehicle contributes as little as possible to the carrier’s weight limit is a good thing overall. And it’s not like you’d be leaving yourself without enough fuel to get anywhere; come pickup time the vehicle has to be able to start and drive enough to be loaded onto the transport truck which means there has to at least be enough fuel to do that, but then you have to be able to get it off the truck come delivery which also takes fuel. A quarter of a tank gives you enough to get it on and off the truck as well as enough to get it to the nearest gas station for a fillup.
