Coast to Coast Car Transport Will Be Slower This Weekend

Coast to Coast Car Transport

Winter Storm Wesley has hit the Midwest hard, shutting down interstates and schools and more. Coast to coast car transport will likely be impacted as a result. Of course, transportation both to and from affected areas will be as well. But right now the main auto shipping hubs are California and Florida, with many cars moving east-west now that snowbird season is over.

It’s being said that Winter Storm Wesley will break all-time records for pressure and snowfall across the Midwest.

How Wesley is affecting coast to coast car transport services

The hard part about weather like this is that it can be difficult to know what’s really going to happen. Most of what we do when we cover weather events like this is speculate. Sometimes it’s easier to get a good gauge on things, but not always. For instance:

Blizzard conditions have closed sections of interstate highways in Colorado, Minnesota, and South Dakota. One of the most important interstates in the region, I-70, was closed from Aurora, Colorado, to the Kansas line, until just a little bit ago today. Multiple affected states have issued travel advisories while Wesley rages on. Wind gusts of 107 mph have been recorded as well.

Basically, carriers aren’t going to travel through affected areas, and right now, there’s a fair few who were planning on it. This has had a ripple effect across the industry, with many carriers either avoiding certain routes altogether or, at the very least, waiting for the weather to clear. This has resulted in lower dispatch rates this week and could continue into next depending on how long the snow lingers.

Preparing for your car transportation services this weekend

Don’t be surprised if your vehicle takes a bit longer to move this week. If you book an order today, for instance, there’s a decent chance it won’t attract any carriers until Monday, when the roads are better.

Something that these kinds of storms really screw up is coast to coast car transport and other vehicles that are just passing through. As we mentioned, the two most popular areas in the industry right now are California and Florida. With the weather slowly improving and getting closer to the summer season, it’s not surprising. There are plenty of cars that are moving coast to coast that don’t go anywhere near Colorado or the Dakotas or Minnesota.

But those that do are rising in number, and more people are being affected by it.

Prices likely won’t increase much on affected routes, which is good. It’ll likely just take longer to find a truck willing to travel through the Midwest right now. A lot of carriers are looking to avoid that area at the moment and it could last through next week. Carriers take loads as they can, but if they have to shift their routes, it’ll take them extra time. This means more time away from their normal routes, which could result in longer wait times for dispatch and the like. It could also result in higher prices in the short term.
