Jefferson City is a city in as well as the county seat of Cole County, Missouri. It also serves as the capital of the state and is currently home to a population of over 43,000 residents, making it the fifteenth-largest city in the state. Jefferson City also sits as the anchor of its own metro area, officially named the Jefferson City Metropolitan Statistical Area, home to over 159,000 residents. As an auto transport location, Jefferson City is not the most popular city in the state, as it sits along no major interstates; however, I-70 runs east-west 30-40 miles north of Jefferson City, which does make it cheaper and easier for most carriers who are moving freight into or out of Jefferson City.
First founded as a village named Lohman’s Landing, the village was chosen by the Missouri State Legislature in 1821 to serve as the site for the new capital. Renamed Jefferson City in honor of Thomas Jefferson, it was incorporated in 1825 as a city and began to attract new settlers almost immediately. Much of the city’s economy was based on agriculture and some retail, though industry has been a more recent addition to the city’s economy, notably manufacturing. Agriculture, education, manufacturing and retail, as well as healthcare, are the cornerstones of the city’s economy today.
During the summer months is when it’ll likely be cheaper to ship into and out of Jefferson City. With highs usually peaking in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s, and overnight summer lows only dropping into the mid-to-upper 60’s, it’s usually fairly easy for car shippers to run routes during the warmest times of the year. During the winter months, though, temperatures plummet, with average highs between November and March staying in the low-to-mid 40’s, dropping into the upper 30’s in December and January; snow is also more frequently during the winter, and as a result you should keep an eye on the weather if you’re shipping into or out of Jefferson City during the winter. At the same time, as a Southern U.S. state it does usually see more traffic during the winter than the northern states, which does help to keep prices on the lower end.
