Pierre Part was first founded in 1755 by French settlers, though it remained isolated for quite some time as it is surrounded by water on all sides. The city was inaccessible by land until late into the 20th century, though it was known for its agriculture. In recent years the economy has shifted away from agriculture and towards petroleum, which has become a major source of income for the city.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 95 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping to around 65 degrees overnight. During the winter, however, temperatures lower slightly, with highs topping out around 65 degrees and lows often dropping down to around 54 degrees overnight.
