Murfreesboro is a city in and the county seat of Rutherford County, Tennessee. According to an independent official census conducted by the city in 2008 the population of the city was just over 100,000 residents, which was up from 81,000 in 2005. Murfreesboro was also ranked the 84th best place to live by Money Magazine.

It was founded in 1811 as the county seat of the new Rutherford County, and the name was originally Cannonsburgh (named after Newton Cannon). It was quickly renamed after Hardy Murfree, a hero of the revolution, and was also the capital of Tennessee in 1818 after it was moved from Knoxville. It was moved to Nashville in 1826 and has remained there since.
