Beaumont is a city in and is the county seat of Jefferson County, Texas. Home to over 118,000 residents, Beaumont is a primary city in the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area; these two cities, combined with Orange, another nearby city, forms what is known colloquially as the Golden Triangle, which is a major industrial area on the Gulf coast. Beaumont is also the home of Lamar University.

Beaumont was first settled in 1835 and was incorporated as a town only three years later. The name comes from the man who settled it, Henry Millard, who wanted to honor his deceased wife (her maiden name being Beaumont). It was mainly inhabited by cattle raisers and farmers in its formative years, but after oil was discovered at the turn of the 20th century the city grew by leaps and bounds, and continues to do so today.
