Fort Worth is a city in as well as the county seat of Tarrant County, in the U.S. state of Texas. Fort Worth is a sprawling part of and a principal city of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area, also known as the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Home to a population of over 792,000 residents, Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the state of Texas and the 17th largest in the United States. Fort Worth today is known for being in close proximity to Dallas, the second-largest city in Texas, and is also known for being the home of several major institutions of higher learning including Texas Christian University and Texas A&M University School of Law, among others.

Fort Worth was established as a military outpost in 1849, namely to protect settlers in the area after the end of the Mexican-American War. For a time, Fort Worth was little more than a sleepy army post with a small spattering of civilians surrounding it. This changed after Fort Worth was included on the Chisholm Trail, a major overland route west from areas like Louisiana and Alabama. This drastically altered Fort Worth, and by 1920 it had become a bustling city complete with several skyscrapers. Fort Worth became a leading supplier and distributor of oil during that time, and led to a boom that spread throughout Texas. Today, Fort Worth is one of the largest cities in Texas as well as the United States.

Fort Worth, like many cities in Texas, sees relatively hot summers and colder winters, with little snowfall – if any – even during the depths of the winter season. Average summer highs reach into the mid-to-upper 90’s, with temperatures in the triple digits not unheard of or all that uncommon. During the winter the temperatures get cold, with average highs only reaching into the mid-to-upper 60’s and lows routinely falling into the low-to-mid 30’s. Snowfall being uncommon helps keep carriers on the roads into and out of Fort Worth, and with its location and ease of access it is one of the most popular places to ship to or from year-round.
