It was founded in 1619 under a different name, though the records of its original name have been lost to time. After many different names and reorganizations of the city it finally settled as Norfolk in the mid 18th century and quickly grew into a naval powerhouse. It was also a stop on the Underground Railroad and many freed and escaped slaves fled through the city’s ports on their way to Canada.

During the summer months temperatures in the city typically hit around 87 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 68 degrees or so overnight.
