Myrtle Beach is a coastal resort town on the coast of South Carolina; it is actually the de facto hub of the greater Myrtle Beach metropolitan statistical area and the Grand Strand, a region of beach towns and small islands making up the South Carolina Coast.

The city was founded in the late 18th century and was quickly turned into a lumber city, with many lumber manufacturers would come to harvest the bountiful forests that surrounded it. It remained relatively untouched by war during the 19th century and it wasn’t until the 20th rolled around that it became a resort town. It still operates some lumber companies as well as Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, which was first built in the 1940’s.

The city lies in a humid subtropical climate zone, which is characterized by hot humid summers and mild, warm winters. Average highs during the summer months peak at around 88 degrees, while lows rarely drop below 70. During the winter temperatures cool slightly, with average highs peaking around 63 and lows dropping to around 40 degrees or so.
