Madison is a city in and is actually the county seat of Dane County, Wisconsin, and it is also the state capital. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 223,000, which makes it the second largest city in the state and the 82nd largest in the United States. It is the core of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area which includes all of Dane, Iowa and Columbia counties.

Madison was built to be the state capital and was formed when the Wisconsin Territory demanded that a new city be named the capital. The city was advertised and settlers flocked to the city to take advantage of the open spaces that Madison offered. The city continued its policy of annexation of smaller, nearby towns well into the 20th century and the next city is to be annexed by 2022.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 80 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping to around 53 degrees overnight. During the winter months temperatures hit around 30 degrees during the day, with lows often hitting around 12 degrees or so overnight.
