Cheyenne is a city in and the county seat of Laramie County, Wyoming, and it is the largest city in the state; according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 53,000. It is also the principal city of the Cheyenne Metropolitan Statistical Area.

It was founded in 1867 and after a few years the city had grown to over 4,000 residents. As the railroads were being built through the area the population began to dwindle as workers left to work on the railroads and the city became known for its cattle ranching.
