Casper is a city in and the county seat of Natrona County, Wyoming, and it is actually the only city in the entire county. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was under 50,000 and it is currently the second largest city in the state of Wyoming, after Cheyenne.

It was established as a city to supply Fort Casper in the mid 19th century. It was built not long after the Oregon Trail had become well established and full of travelers, making it a much-needed stop on the trail for rest and resupply. As more people stopped in the city to rest, more people decided to stay and when oil was found in the early 20th century the city has grown ever since.
