Fort Lauderdale 1Fort Lauderdale is a city located in Broward County, and is a firm part of the greater Miami metropolitan area. Fort Lauderdale is currently home to over 170,000 residents.

Though the U.S. Army had a presence in the area as early as 1838, the area that has come to be known as Fort Lauderdale did not really start until the early 1890’s, when a ferry system over the New River was built and the railroad came to the area around the same time. Fort Lauderdale was incorporated in 1911 and saw major population and land gains during the Florida Land Boom of the 1920’s.

It would remain relatively stable growth-wise until the end of World War II, when it became a popular place for veterans to settle down and start a family. Population growth exploded during the 1950’s and 60’s, but started to even out in the 70’s and actually decreased slightly in the 1980’s and 90’s. Recent annexations of nearby areas has caused the population to grow over the past fifteen years, though, and Fort Lauderdale today is larger than it has ever been.

Auto Transport Tips to Fort Lauderdale

The state of Florida is widely considered to be the most popular auto transportation location in the United States, and Fort Lauderdale is no exception. Located on the eastern shores of southern Florida, near Miami, Fort Lauderdale is easily accessible via Interstate 95, which is a major north-south interstate in the eastern U.S. and a prime auto transport route that services some of the largest cities in the United States. This helps keep prices lower going into Fort Lauderdale.

The city is also serviced by another major interstate, I-75, another popular north-south route. I-75 actually runs east into the western edges of the city before turning south. I-75 is generally less-used when shipping to Fort Lauderdale because of the prevalence of I-95, but it still connects a lot of major metro areas together along one road. Plus, with Fort Lauderdale being so large and the area around it so populated, it’s not going to cost an arm and a leg or take forever to get your vehicle picked up regardless.

It’s important that you talk to your auto transportation representative regarding specific factors for your shipment that might cause prices to go up or pickup windows to be extended. Likely it’ll have to do with the other city – whether shipping from or to Fort Lauderdale, you’re also shipping to or from another city, and where that city is will also play a role in your price and carrier availability.
