West Chester is a borough in as well as the county seat of Chester County, in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Currently home to a population of over 18,400 residents, West Chester is the largest city in Chester County. It was founded in the mid-to-late 18th century and was named as the county seat of Chester County in 1786, and then incorporated as a borough in 1789. The city grew into a center for clockmaking, of all things, which helped spur industrial growth in other sectors, though today the area is mostly commercial, given over to small retail and some shopping centers as well as heavily residential.
