Ford Expedition Auto TransportationThe Ford Expedition is currently Ford Motor Company’s largest SUV. It was introduced in 1997 to replace the ailing Bronco lineup. Ford also discontinued the Ford Excursion lineup in 2005, bringing some of the Excursion models and rebranding them as Expeditions. Currently the Ford Expedition is sold in eight models, each with different package options.

Currently all eight Excursion models have an MSRP of $37,600 – $49,430 and all eight models get an estimated 14/20 mpg (city/highway) and feature 6,000 – 9,200 lbs of towing, 310 horsepower and 365 ft-lbs of torque, as the engine is virtually the same in each model: a 5.4L 3V SOHC flex-fuel V8, a behemoth in that type of vehicle.

The Expedition’s size increases depending on the model (and the price, with higher-priced models being larger in size), and this can pose problems for auto transportation companies.

The base XL features the least amount of available options, but it’s also the cheapest. The Sync is absent from this particular model, but it does come with Sirius Satellite Radio standard as well as roll stability control. Sync is available on all models starting with the XLT, the next up from the XL, and like the XL is still relatively small, so auto transportation companies shouldn’t have much problems with it.

The Limited is much larger, and it may pose problems for auto transportation companies – unless you tell them exactly what it is. Expect higher prices with the larger Excursion models as they are technically oversized vehicles, and could be subject to oversized vehicle fees and overweight vehicle fees. It’s always best to talk to your auto transportation provider about the price.

Starting with the Limited, all Excursion models above it feature a powered rear liftgate, dual-zone climate control, the heavy-duty trailer/tow package, a rear-view camera, and a host of other cool features. If you’re looking at purchasing an Excursion, Cars.com has some useful information here.
