The Dodge Dart has been around since the late 1950’s. Originally built on a platform designed by famous Italian automobile design firm Carraozzeria Ghia, it was introduced as a full-size car in 1960 and 1961, a mid-size in 1962, and a compact from 1963-1976. Car shipping for any Dodge Dart, regardless of the year, is still the same today, as the 2013 Dodge Dart is built on a modified version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform which is similar to the Ghia line of old. What’s interesting about the Dart is that it was discontinued in 1976 despite having a solid reputation as a reliable car and was one of Chrysler’s best-selling vehicles during its run. Then-President of Chrysler Lee Iacocca would later lament his decision to drop the Dart for the Aspen, which had problems since its introduction and never sold as well as the Dart. The Dart name was revived in 2013 and this car shipping article will focus on the current models, what their key features are, and what you can expect when it comes to transporting one. Anything car shipping-related in this article also applies to any older model Dart as well.
The 2013 Dodge Dart has yet to go on sale at the time this article was published, but from what Dodge is saying on their website there will be five models, the SE, SXT, Rallye, Limited and R/T. The SE will feature a 2.0L 180-hp Tigershark 4-cylinder engine, a six-speed manual transmission, ten standard airbags and projector headlamps and LED taillamps. The SXT will feature everything the SE does plus 17-inch aluminum wheels, power mirrors, power locks, remote keyless entry, an available Uconnect Touch Media Center with an 8.4-inch screen and an available 1.4L MultiAir Turbo engine. The Rallye features everything the SXT does including a unique black grille surround, black headlamp bezels, projector fog lamps, integrated dual exhaust, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, available hyper-black aluminum wheels, an electronic vehicle information center, a trip computer and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. The Limited will feature all that the SXT does plus a bright grille and door handles, projector fog lamps, a 7-inch re-configurable display, available polished aluminum wheels, an electronic vehicle information center, a trip computer and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. The R/T features a 2.4L 184-hp Tigershark engine with MultiAir II technology, a hyper-black grille, projector fog lamps, 18-inch aluminum wheels, a unique black front fascia, premium Nappa leather-trimmed interior, integrated dual exhaust and black headlamp bezels.
The Dodge Dart is smaller than its earlier iterations, but that’s only good news if you need car shipping services for one. Almost every car shipping company has shipped some type of Dart before, and those who haven’t have definitely handled car shipping services for a car the same size and length as one. In terms of size the Dodge Dart is nothing big, which means you won’t get slapped with overweight/oversize car shipping fees. No, the biggest factor in your car shipping quote will be where your Dart is being picked up from and dropped off at. Typically, car shipping companies like to travel along highly-traveled routes to and from major metropolitan areas. If you need car shipping services to or from more rural or less-populated areas it certainly is possible, only a bit more expensive. If you’re trying to arrange car shipping on a budget, but you need to move from less-than-ideal locations, perhaps traveling a bit to the nearest large city might save you some money.
