Chevy Silverado 3500HD Crew Cab Standard BedThe Silverado 3500HD Crew Cab Standard Bed pickup truck is a behemoth, there’s no denying that, and finding fast and cheap auto transport for one can be a challenge. Introduced in 1998, the Silverado is a pickup truck that many auto transport companies have familiarity with, but not all transport carriers have the means to move them, so finding the right auto transport carrier can be tough.

In this article we’ll discuss the 2012 Silverado 3500HD in brief detail, outlining what you can expect to find in each different model should you be looking to buy one, as well as what you can expect when it comes to finding an auto transport company to move it. The 3500HD Crew Cab Standard bed features three models, the WT, LT and LTZ.

The WT features a 6.0L V8 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, though it does feature a 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 with an Allison six-speed automatic transmission as an upgrade. It also features single rear wheel application, the Z85 Handling/Trailering suspension system, 4,187-lbs standard payload, 18-inch painted steel wheels, power door locks, the Z82 Heavy Duty Trailering equipment package and the G80 automatic-locking rear differential system.

In addition to or replacing certain WT features, the LT comes with an MP3-compatible CD player, SiriusMX Satellite Radio with three trial months, power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors, power windows, premium cloth seating, 18-inch polished forged-aluminum wheels and OnStar with its Directions and Connections plan for six months.

The LTZ, in addition to or replacing certain LT features, comes with body-color, power-folding and adjustable heated mirrors, an automatic-locking rear differential, custom leather-appointed front bucket seats, a Bose-powered sound system and USB ports.

The biggest problem when it comes to finding auto transport for a truck like this is its size. Almost every auto transport company in the industry will charge an overweight or oversize vehicle fee on a vehicle that’s larger or heavier than a normal passenger car.

The reason they do this is because more fuel is used when transporting heavy vehicles as opposed to light vehicles, and with diesel prices so high auto transport companies have a hard time meeting their bottom line if they have to transport heavy vehicles at light vehicle prices. This is also why most auto transport companies hike up prices on heavy vehicles, because at the end of the day an auto transport company is just that: an auto transport company, and they need to make their profit margins too.

Another problem can be availability of a carrier, especially if your 3500 has been lifted or made heavier in any way – too much lift could mean it’s too big for a standard carrier, which would mean even more money and more delays. It’s important to know what to expect before you decide to ship your vehicle.
