Jacksonville 1Jacksonville is a city in and the county seat of Morgan County, in the U.S. state of Illinois. Home to a population of over 19,400, Jacksonville sits as the anchor of the Jacksonville micropolitan area; though it sits close to Springfield, which is only 40 miles or so east of the city. The city was founded in 1825 and grew rapidly; by 1829 there were calls for a college to be built – that college today is Illinois College. It played a small role during the rest of the 19th century, notably as the location where Abraham Lincoln endorsed John C. Fremont for president in 1856 and as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Manufacturing was brought to the city in the early 1960’s by Capitol Records, of all companies; they operated a manufacturing plant for vinyl LP’s, audio cassettes and eventually CD’s. The plant closed in 2004.

Auto Transport Tips to and from Jacksonville

Jacksonville is a growing city that anchors its own micropolitan area, but it’s only home to 19,400 residents, which in the auto transport industry isn’t that impressive at all. Auto transport companies prefer to run routes into and out of major metropolitan areas – it gives them access to more customers along fast routes that quickly connect to one another. This lets them stack their loads along routes to maximize their potential profit, and Jacksonville doesn’t help all that much. It’s not too popular with customers and sits outside of major metro areas that carriers servicing Illinois tend to frequent.

At the same time, it does sit along an interstate highway, I-72, which helps a lot. Carriers want to run routes along major interstates through major cities, and while I-72 may not be a major interstate, nor Jacksonville a major city, it still makes it easier and cheaper for a carrier to get into and out of the area. Chances are there won’t be much that’ll actively save you money, not the way routes tend to be cheaper through major cities most times of the year, but at the very least it being so far removed from major cities in Illinois won’t be as detrimental to your shipping services as it could be. You may want to discuss possibly moving your shipping location out of Jacksonville and into nearby Springfield, which is larger, if you’re shipping on a budget; it may save you a bit of cash, at the cost of having to drive out that way to pickup or deliver your vehicle.
