Kennesaw is a city located in Cobb County, in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is currently home to a population of over 32,400 residents and is a part of the Atlanta, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area. Though the city was not officially incorporated until 1887, it had been inhabited since at least the 1830’s and the arrival of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. Kennesaw is perhaps best known either for the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862, where Union soldiers hijacked a locomotive and used it to wreak havoc in the region, or else for its mandatory gun laws – essentially, every able-bodied and sound-minded resident of the city must own a gun, along with ammunition, and keep it ready to go in case of emergency.
