The city draws its name from the many natural oak trees that populated the area when first settled in the 1870’s. Originally nothing more than a stop on a stagecoach route, Thousand Oaks slowly grew into a technological giant with companies such as Bank of America, Baxter International, General Dynamics, Verizon, Volkswagen, General Motors and BMW all operating offices or manufacturing facilities in the area.
