Pomona 1Named after Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit, Pomona, California is the fifth-largest city in Los Angeles  County and is currently home to a population of over 149,000. Pomona was first settled in the early 1830’s, while California was still a part of Mexico, and was actually first settled by Mexican settlers at the time. The first American settlers arrived in the early 1840’s, though population began to expand more rapidly after gold was discovered in California in the late 1840’s. Pomona then grew more slowly until the arrival of the railroads in the late 1880’s, as well as the first outside water supply which helped stabilize the city’s population and helped it expand. Agriculture has played a large part in the city’s growth as a result.

Tips for Shipping a Vehicle to Pomona

When shipping to Pomona, you’ll find that you’ll likely have an easier time getting carriers to move vehicles in and out of the northern parts of the city. It sits just south of Interstate 10, one of the major east-west interstates in California that runs all the way through to Jacksonville, Florida. This, in turn, makes Pomona a likely stop on many auto shippers’ routes, and will likely result in your vehicle getting picked up more quickly.

However, you should still try to meet your shipping company near an on ramp or off ramp of I-10 that is easily accessible and makes for easier maneuvering. Pomona is an older city, and while it may not have to growth or density of larger metro areas such as Los Angeles or San Diego, it is still an older city, which could cause problems for shippers trying to get into the downtown core of the city. Meeting them closer to  the interstate will likely yield faster pickup and delivery times for you.

Ontario and West Covina flank Pomona on the east and west, respectively, and if you’re coming from the east it may not be a bad idea to ship to Ontario instead, as carriers can easily access it via the 10 and you may end up saving money. That’s something that you should discuss with your auto transportation representative, of course; it’s not cut-and-dry like that, but it’s certainly a possibility.
