Wilmington is a city in and the county seat of New Hanover County, North Carolina, and according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 75,000. It is also the principal city of the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a total population of over 340,000 residents.
It was founded in the mid-to-late 18th century and was a typical small town at the time. In 1898, however, Wilmington was the site of the bloody Wilmington coup d’état: a group of white men lynched many African-Americans and ran the Republican mayor of out town and installed their own mayor to run the city. Wilmington was then known as one of the most racist cities until the 1960’s and the Civil Rights movement.
During the summer months temperatures in the city typically hit around 84 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 64 degrees or so overnight. During the winter months, however, temperatures hit around 46 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 32 degrees.
