Lubbock was founded in 1890, at the same time Lubbock County was formed; the city was actually founded to be the county seat. It was incorporated as a city in 1909 and afterwards grew quite rapidly.

Texas Tech University was constructed in 1923 and, thanks to several other colleges setting up shop in Lubbock, the city today is currently known as the educational center of Central Texas, thanks to its close relationship to the colleges in the city’s limits.

During the winter months, temperatures are a bit more mild, and can actually get on the colder side of things; daily highs in Lubbock only reach into the low 50’s during the day, with overnight winter lows often dropping into the low-to-mid 30’s. Snow, however, is not seen often in the town, as is the case of many of the cities and areas in Texas.
