The area where Duluth now sits was originally scouted in 1659, and a French trading post was established soon after, where initial contact with Native Americans took place and trade was established. The Hudson\’s Bay Company quickly setup a small fort in the area, but it wouldn\’t be until 1792 that a second fort would be built and people would start settling the area. For the first half of the 20th century, the city was a manufacturing boom town – however, due to the recent economic crises, the city has slowed down, but still maintains a high population and low crime rate.

The city is known for its long, cold winters and short, cool summers. Typical summer temperatures rarely reach above 75 degrees, while lows typically hover around the mid 50\’s. However, in the winter, temperatures rarely get above 25 degrees, and lows typically hover in the single digits, pouring snow onto denizens of the city.
