Dayton is a city in and the county seat of Montgomery County, Ohio, and according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the city’s population was over 166,000. It is the principal city of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses over 835,000 residents, and the city is known for being the hometown of many famous people, including the Wright Brothers. Dayton is also the site of the Dayton Peace Accords, which brought an end to the Bosnian War.

Dayton was founded in 1796, with several major roads being built to the city in the subsequent years. These roads opened the area up to settlement, though the city remained relatively small until the construction of the Erie Canal.

The canal brought many new people to the city and helped the manufacturing sector of the city boom. Today, Dayton’s economy has diversified, relying more on healthcare, education and insurance as opposed to just manufacturing; this change has helped Dayton continue to grow and has prevented the city from stagnating.
