The city of Bozeman is the fourth-largest city in the state of Montana and currently has a population of over 39,000 residents. Bozeman also sits at the heart of the Bozeman micropolitan area, which has a population of 94,000 residents; despite the fact that it is a micropolitan area, and not a metropolitan area, Bozeman’s micropolitan area is still the third-largest, by population, of all of Montana’s statistical areas. Its natural scenic beauty and rustic way of life has attracted many new settlers to the area in recent years.

Bozeman was founded in 1864 and named after John Bozeman, one of the founders and a major influence on the growth and development of Bozeman. Bozeman grew slowly and was primarily an agricultural town; it was incorporated in 1883 and was originally formed with a city council government, which made the transition to its current form, a manager/city commission based government, in 1922. Bozeman was named an All America city in 2001 and is considered a college town, as it is the home of Montana State University.

During the summer months, average daily highs in the city only reach into the low-to-mid 80’s, though temperatures as high as 100 degrees have been recorded. Overnight lows in the summer months often drop down into the low-to-mid 60’s, with occasional nights dropping into the mid-50’s.

During the winter months, however, average highs in the area only reach into the low-to-mid 30’s, with overnight lows often below freezing. Snow is common, which can make it more difficult for carriers to run routes into and out of Bozeman during the winter months.
