Idaho Falls is a city in and the county seat of Bonneville County, Idaho; according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 50,000. It is a principal city of the Idaho Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is in turn a part of the much larger Idaho Falls-Blackfoot Combined Statistical Area.

It was originally the site of Taylor’s Bridge, a bridge over the Snake River that provided pioneers going into the Pacific Northwest a way to get across the river safely. A small community was built around the bridge when repairs were first needed and in 1891 the town was named Idaho Falls. The railroad came to the town not long afterward, though in recent years growth has slowed.
