Automobile Transportation to Oakland

Automobile Transportation to OaklandThe city of Oakland is located in the San Francisco Bay Area within the state of California, and has a population of 390,000 residents. Despite having several different pro sport franchises, it is only the 8th largest city in the state (this is more a testament to the size of California, however, and more especially the cities in it, than anything on Oakland’s part). Located on the eastern shores of the San Francisco Bay, it connects to San Francisco via the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. Oakland was the western terminus for the Transcontinental Railroad and serves as the busiest port in the San Francisco Bay area.

Its status as a major transportation hub is still secure even today, though less so in terms of overland transport via truck. Oakland is a large city, but it is connected to the Interstate Highway System only by auxiliary interstates and older U.S. Routes as opposed to lying directly along a major interstate. I-5 runs its route east of Oakland, and travelers can get to Oakland from Interstate 5 via I-580 which runs west from I-5 into the San Lorenzo area of Oakland. This can make it a bit more expensive for carriers to run routes in and out of Oakland, so you should probably be prepared to spend a bit extra if you’re moving to Oakland from the southwestern states. U.S. 101 passes near the area as well (up through San Jose) and some carriers may travel up that as opposed to I-5 as it runs a bit closer to Oakland.
