Lewiston is a city in and the county seat of Nez Perce County, Idaho. It is the principal city of the Lewiston-Clarkston, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Nez Perce County and Asotin County, Washington. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 30,000.
The town as named after Meriwether Lewis and was founded in 1861, and was named the territory’s seat of government not long after. In 1864 the capital of the territory was moved to Boise, where it has stayed.
