Winter Storm Jupiter Delays Northwest Auto Transport Services
Northwest auto transport services got a bit harder to complete last night, thanks to Winter Storm Jupiter. The storm hit the region late yesterday and has already dropped an excess of six inches in some areas. Snow accumulation has already shut down parts of Portland, Oregon, as well as parts of its surrounding metro area.
Snow can cause serious problems for car shippers in the form of dangerous routes, traffic incidents, slow going and inaccessibility. Right now, sections of both I-5 and I-84 are seeing huge delays and surely some car shippers are caught in the deluge.
How the winter storm is affecting car shipping services
Right now, we don’t have any concrete proof that car transporters are stuck on the interstates. According to traffic reports things are slow on I-5 and I-84, but they’re moving. So that’s good. But there are streets in Portland, Oregon that are closed, and many more in the surrounding areas.
The mountainous areas, especially places like the West Hills, are seeing difficult driving conditions thanks to the slopes. If you are shipping a car to or from those mountainous areas, chances are your vehicle won’t be delivered today.
Over the next few days it’s likely that carriers will be ignoring northwest auto transport routes thanks to the weather. What’s funny, though, is that the northwest is not the only place to be affected by Winter Storm Jupiter.
Flooding in central and eastern California has made some areas completely inaccessible. Snow accumulation on I-80 between Sacramento and Reno has all but shut down passes through the Sierra-Nevada range.
And Winter Storm Jupiter is only continuing its march east. In the coming days, weather reports expect ice storms to rock the Midwest from northern Texas all the way to Indiana, slowing car transportation across the country.
How you can beat the weather
Right now, if you’re on the hunt for auto transport quotes and services to or from affected areas, prepare for delays. Auto shippers don’t want to run routes to or from areas that are seeing a lot of winter weather, after all. So they’re going to be waiting out the storms just like you. Some will be willing to brave the snow and ice, but it depends on the company. Make sure to speak to an agent to discuss strategies as well.
If you’re interested in shipping a car, and need to get some quotes, get them! Don’t let the weather stop you because the quotes will likely still be good once the weather thaws. At the very least, you can talk to some shipping companies and get their take on the weather. They can give you more information about conditions on the ground and also give you a quote over the phone.
