Why Alternate Auto Transport Options Exist

Alternate Auto Transport OptionsIf you’ve followed our blog at all – or if you’ve read any of our auto shipping articles – you have likely read a bit about the different types of auto transportation carriers on the road today and you understand that alternate auto transport options exist. They’re an integral and important part of the industry today, even though the majority of vehicles are shipped on a standard ten-car hauler. Like in any industry, there has to be options for getting things done; when it comes to shipping a vehicle, different vehicles are going to require different ways to get them moved and for a variety of different reasons. In this blog post we’re going to discuss some of the reasons why alternate auto transport options exist and why it’s important to know which type is right for your vehicle.

There are a lot of vehicles on the road that could use enclosed vehicle shipping services, be they expensive luxury vehicles, rare collectibles or vehicles that don’t see the light of day very often. Enclosed transportation is not as common and is often more expensive, but enclosed shippers are around as an option simply because someone has to be. It goes the same for flatbed haulers; whereas enclosed carriers can often ship the same types of vehicles that standard open haulers can ship, including pickup trucks, minivans, cargo vans and regular vehicles. Flatbed haulers typically ship vehicles that cannot fit on an open or enclosed carrier.

Both enclosed and flatbed auto shipping services are going to be more expensive and also harder to find than a standard open carrier, so they aren’t usually quoted unless you request their services. It’s easier to get quotes for enclosed shipping than flatbed simply because enclosed carriers can handle a wide variety of vehicles. Technically, flatbed haulers could ship those too, but they don’t; if enclosed carriers aren’t as common as open ones, flatbed carriers are downright rare especially in areas with low numbers of customers like rural areas. This means that enclosed carriers may take a bit longer to find, and flatbed haulers even more so, but if they’re necessary for your shipment they’re a good alternative to have. And those are some of the biggest reasons as to why alternate auto transport options exist and why they are there for you if you need them.
