Tips for Preparing for the Pickup of a Vehicle
One of the most important things that you can do when you ship a vehicle is actually prepare your vehicle for getting picked up. Believe it or not you do have to do some things before your vehicle is picked up and loaded onto the truck, and there are a few different things that you can do to have your vehicle ready to go for when your carrier shows up to load it onto the truck. In this blog post, we’re going to discuss some of the easier and more common things that you can do to prepare your vehicle for pickup, notably cleaning it.
You’d be surprised at how easy it is to make a car a rolling trash can, especially if you’re busy and tend to be in the car for work or because you simply have a long commute. When you spend a lot of time driving, your car sort of becomes an extension of your bedroom, and many people tend to treat their bedroom as their own personal space, which means they couldn’t care less what other people think about it. Things like clothes, books, backpacks, even garbage can accumulate in a vehicle when you drive it a lot, and those things must be removed before your vehicle is loaded onto the truck.
Another thing that you can do is to drive it around until it has about a quarter of a tank of fuel left. Fuel is heavy, and if every vehicle that a car transport company ships has a full tank of gas it means that the truck will likely be overweight. A standard US gallon of unleaded gasoline weighs about six pounds; that means that a car with a 15-gallon tank adds 90 pounds of weight to an auto transport truck – not a lot, when you think about how much a vehicle weighs, but if each car they ship averages an extra hundred pounds of gasoline (not unreasonable) that means that they’re going to be adding an additional 1,000 pounds of weight to the truck, which is as much as a small car! With weight restrictions being what they are, this can push a truck overweight and cause problems and delays due to excess weight.
