Never Double Book your Car Shipment
Something that more than a few customers have done is what’s known as the double book. When you double book your car shipment, it means that you’ve booked an order with more than one brokerage, and believe it or not this can be an issue, as most car transporters actually use the same basic load boards to connect customers with carriers. Double booking an order brings with it a host of problems that carriers and brokers really don’t want to deal with, which we’ll explain a bit more below. Suffice it to say, though, that when you double book your car shipment you end up screwing a lot of stuff up for quite a few different people, so don’t do it.
When you double book your car shipment it means that you’ve booked with two different companies, likely for different prices. While it may sound like a good strategy to try to get a lower price, forcing companies to compete like that ends up just causing confusion. Carriers who see the same load posted by two different shippers won’t know who to contact for it, so oftentimes they simply leave it alone, which can be frustrating for you since it has the opposite effect from what you intended. But see, carriers know that, so they do it anyway to get it off the load boards.
Brokers, too, will try to undermine shipments that they find are double booked. Oftentimes they’ll simply cancel an order that they know has been double booked, so they don’t have to deal with the headache. For a broker it’s not all that big of a deal – yeah, some time and effort go down the drain, but it’s so much worse for a carrier to show up to pick up a vehicle only for it to already be gone. Or, even worse, to see it being driven away by another carrier company. So when you book a shipment, book with only one company, as it will end up saving you time, money and hassle over trying to play two different companies against each other to try to get a better rate. Because when you double book your car shipment, you’re not going to get a better rate, just a lot more hassle.
