NAFA Unveils New Fleet Sustainability Program

Carrier 13In auto transport news, NAFA has recently unveiled a new sustainable fleet standard program at the 2014 AltCar Expo and Conference. For fleet managers, sustainability is key, and achieving that – according to NAFA – requires a renewed way of thinking about fleet management and transportation. Looking at the way drivers are trained, the vehicles that they drive, and even reassessing day-to-day operations are key in achieving a sustainable and profitable fleet, and while this news may be more beneficial for owners of fleets of trucks and vans, it does affect the auto transportation industry too, and these new ideas could lead to a better – and cheaper – way for auto transporters to operate in their day-to-day work. Not only that, but the location of the unveiling – the AltCar Expo and Conference – is about much more than fleet sustainability; it also has a lot to do with alternative fuels that could be used to power fleets.

We like to discuss alternative fuels quite a bit on this blog because they’re something that can completely revolutionize the auto shipping industry, it’s just a matter of time until it’s fully implemented. Auto shippers are always looking at ways to reduce their overhead and make more money, considering they drive massive trucks around all day that only get 6-10 miles per gallon of diesel fuel. By reevaluating the way that their trucks are managed, the hours that they drive, and the routes that they travel, auto shippers could potentially save themselves quite a bit of money, and help pass the savings onto their customers. Auto transport is a competitive industry, and much of its expense goes to keep the truck fueled and on the road. If an auto transportation company could spend less on fuel while still driving the same distance, they could pass savings onto customers by lowering their rates; this in turn would cause more people to want to use them, and could theoretically expand their business. Alternative energy and new ways at looking at fleet and truck sustainability are vital to the car shipping industry’s health, growth, and expense, which is why we’re focusing on it in this week’s “Auto Transport News” blog post.
