How Misinformation Only Hurts Your Auto Transport Experience
Though the vehicle shipping industry is a niche one, you’d likely be surprised at just how high the demand for auto transportation services is, and how many different auto transport companies there are out there on the road today, hauling cars from and to cities across the nation. All of them have different pricing methods and different rules and regulations regarding how they conduct their business, how they handle various payment methods, and you’ll always want to make sure you at least glance over each company’s terms and conditions, as those are the most common things to differ from company to company aside from price. And this is where you really need to tread carefully, as misinformation can lead to some serious repercussions down the road.
Since different companies have different terms and policies in regards to pricing and services, it’s important that you be upfront and honest with what exactly you are looking to ship and where you’re looking to ship it from and to. A good example of this is lying about what type of vehicle you’re shipping. Many customers understand that price is based on size and weight, in addition to where they’re shipping from and to. Distance plays the largest role in determining your auto transport price, but vehicle size and weight is also important, and this is where people lie to get a better rate, without realizing how colossally dumb of an idea it is. Regardless of what you’re shipping, someone will have to put it on a truck, and it’s going to be pretty obvious it’s not a Geo Metro they’re picking up when they show up at your address and see only an ’05 Ford F-350 sitting in the driveway.
But what’s the problem? you’re asking. It’s a simple lie that won’t affect anything, an F-350 is still a stock truck. That may be true, but you’re dead wrong if you think it won’t affect your price. Auto transport prices work differently than prices in other industries, and they can change based on a number of different factors including – you guessed it – the size and weight of your vehicle. Also, it’s not set in stone the way the price of a Big Mac is. If a carrier thinks they’re picking up a sedan when in reality their customer is shipping a Hummer, they’re going to be in a pretty bad mood. You can imagine their frustration, especially when you consider the fact that many of the larger vehicles out there can’t fit on a standard carrier anyway. So if they can’t fit the car you’re shipping on their carrier, but think they can because you straight-up lied to them, you think they’ll be okay with that?
You have to understand that auto transport companies are run by people, and people are going to be people. Professionalism is a great thing to have, but if you’re a bad customer that professionalism is going to go out the window in a right hurry. A sense of entitlement does no one any good in the car shipping industry, since no amount of whining or complaining or lying is going to change anything about your vehicle shipping services, and in fact could hinder your approach as representatives don’t take kindly to being treated like trash. Lying, or being rude, or otherwise giving misinformation is just a dick move at the end of the day, and I’ve been around this industry long enough to tell you that being a dick gets you absolutely nowhere in the car shipping industry, at least as a customer. Be kind, be respectful and for the love of God don’t lie about anything, it’s the dumbest thing you can do. All you do is shoot yourself in the foot when you do that because so many things can go wrong when you lie.
