Across the Map: South Carolina Auto Transport Services

South Carolina 3South Carolina is a state located in the southeastern United States, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It was one of the thirteen original colonies. Originally, both North and South Carolina were one colony, but the charter authorizing the one colony was revoked, and in 1712 the big colony split into two separate colonies, each with their own individual charter. South Carolina was the first state to declare independence from Great Britain during the American Revolution and was also the first state to secede from the U.S. prior to the outbreak of the Civil War. Today, South Carolina is home to over 4.7 million residents and is the 40th-largest state in the U.S. by total area. You can read more about the state of South Carolina at the official website for the state here.

There are many wide areas of South Carolina with no major interstate access – in fact, there are only a few scattered major metro areas across the entire state, roughly in the northwest, the central region, and the southeastern portions – the rest is heavily forested and sparsely populated. In the northwest is the Greenville metro area, a popular transportation location in the state – it sits along I-85 and I-26, and while those two interstates are not as popular they are still incredibly useful for auto transporters and their customers. In the central region is Columbia, the state capital, and its metro area; this sits along I-20, another useful route for auto shippers. In the southeast is Charleston, which is serviced only by I-26.

I-26 is useful because it runs through all three of these major areas, intersecting them all on a northwest-southeast course. Several major interstates intersect with I-26, including I-95, one of the most prominent and heavily-traveled interstate highways in the entire country. The interstate highways are the main way that auto shippers get around, and despite South Carolina being a more rural state than others in its geographical region it is still a popular auto transport location – if not for auto transporters than at the very least for their customers.
