Across the Map: Oklahoma Auto Transport Services

Across the Map: Oklahoma Auto Transport ServicesThe state of Oklahoma is located in the South Central United States. It is known for being a prairie state, home to many grasses and prairies, but it is also relatively diverse from a geographical standpoint; aside from its verdant plains, it has rugged mesas, lower mountain ranges, and huge swaths of forest, particularly in the east. Because of its location, Oklahoma is noted for its extreme weather, particularly tornadoes and thunderstorms. Originally organized as Indian Territory during the 19th century, Oklahoma was opened to settlement in 1889 via a land rush – hundreds of thousands of people literally lined up on the border to race into the newly-opened-to-settlement territory of Oklahoma. Today, Oklahoma is a major agricultural and energy producing state, with some of its largest crops being wheat and corn and one of its most valuable exports being oil. You can read more about Oklahoma here.

Oklahoma is not the most popular auto transportation location in the country, but there are several major interstates that run through major metro areas that help keep prices – and transit times – a bit lower for shipments into and out of Oklahoma. Like most states, the largest city therein will likely be the quickest and cheapest to get to and from, and Oklahoma City is no different. With two relatively important interstates in I-40 and I-44 passing through Oklahoma City, most auto transporters that service those interstates or that include them in their routes will hit Oklahoma City. Their numbers may not be as high as those into and out of California or New York, but it shouldn’t take forever either. It also helps that I-44 connects to I-40 in Oklahoma City and runs northeast to Tulsa, another major metro area in the state. This allows auto shippers easier access to the major metro areas not just of Oklahoma, but the surrounding cities as well.

Oklahoma, however, can be a pain to ship to or from during the late summer and fall months as it sits right smack in the middle of Tornado Alley. Oklahoma sees some of the highest concentrations of tornadoes in the entire world during tornado season, but because of its rural makeup much of the major metro areas are spared the worst of it. Because of the geographical makeup, Oklahoma also sees severe temperature swings in many areas of the state. This can lead to difficulties in auto transportation services due to the fact that fast-freezing temperatures lead to frozen road conditions, which can in turn lead to hazardous travel through the area in the colder months of the year.
