Across the Map: Nevada Car Shipping Services

NevadaThe state of Nevada is the seventh largest state in the U.S. by total area, yet ranks 42nd in terms of total population and 35th in terms of population density. In other words, Nevada is a large state geographically but much of it is uninhabited; there are only a few spots of denser population, primarily in the Las Vegas/Henderson area and the Reno area, though the former is much more popular than the latter. Originally part of the Utah Territory after being ceded to the U.S. from Mexico in 1848, the discovery of the Comstock Lode and the subsequent gold and silver rush prompted Congress to carve the Nevada Territory out of Utah in 1861, which was granted statehood in 1864. For more information about Nevada, you can visit the state’s official website here.

Because of its low population density and large total area, Nevada is not considered an easy state to ship vehicles into or out of, at least by auto transport companies. As mentioned, there are really only two major metro areas in Las Vegas and Reno, and those are isolated in the middle of the desert, far away from any other major metro areas. Las Vegas is a popular shipping destination, particularly in the summer months when car shows are common and people are looking at showing them off. Though it has two east-west interstates running through it – I-15 services Las Vegas in the south, and I-80 services Reno in the north – they are not connected by a major interstate within Nevada, which makes it even more difficult for shippers to maneuver within the state of Nevada.

Of course, this isn’t the end-all, be-all when it comes to shipping a vehicle to or from Nevada; it’s really only going to affect your price. Shipping into or out of Nevada can be sort of a crapshoot unless you’re spending a bit more than the average, because many auto transporters aren’t going to want to go through Nevada unless they’re making enough on the route. It’s a tough route because of the lack of people, and the east-west interstates have a lot of nothing connecting the metro areas of Reno or Las Vegas to any others in the state or, really, even the region. Keep this in mind when transporting to or from the state and you’ll be okay.
