East Texas Car Shipping Impossible Thanks to Harvey
Widespread devastation from Hurricane Harvey – already the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history – has made east Texas car shipping impossible. And it’s still not over. Though Harvey has weakened considerably, flash flood warnings are in effect in the Mississippi Valley. This includes areas of Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana.
The storm is expected to head northeast through parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky. It will also affect parts of southeastern Indiana. This is widely considered to be the worst hurricane in U.S. history, already exceeding the damage caused by hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.
What to expect with east Texas car shipping
Right now, trucks aren’t really moving into or out of affected areas. The National Guard has been brought into parts of Texas, including Houston, to deal with the catastrophe. So right now, commerce has come to a standstill in the region. And it’s going to take weeks for the floodwaters to recede. Experts are anticipating parts of Houston and other cities in the vicinity to be completely uninhabitable for at least several weeks as well.
So really, getting a car to or from the fourth-largest city in the state is nigh impossible. Remember, a state of emergency was declared in Houston, and the city was in the process of evacuating when the hurricane hit over this past weekend. Does anyone expect anything to really go in or out of the city?
And it’s far from over. Currently Tropical Storm Irma is forming near the west coast of Africa. And while it’s too soon to tell if it’ll hit the U.S., it’ll strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday of next week, and is heading west. So it’s a possibility.
