Car Shipping to Waterloo, Iowa
Waterloo is a city in as well as the county seat of Black Hawk County, in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is currently home to a population of over 68,300 total residents, which is actually a slight decline overs its official 2010 numbers. It is co-anchor of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the larger of the two cities. Founded back in the early 1830’s, it was originally little more than a crossing across the Cedar River, but after a post office was established under the name “Waterloo” in 1851, the area became known as Waterloo. It quickly grew into a manufacturing and railroad transportation hub and saw several periods of rapid growth in both the 19th and 20th centuries. It was also an agricultural powerhouse, as many cities in Iowa were and are, but the agricultural recession in the 1980’s hit the city hard, though it has since recovered.
Waterloo sits in the northwestern parts of Iowa and is somewhat close to larger cities in the state like Cedar Rapids. Des Moines sits a bit further away to the southwest. Iowa, on the whole, is not all that popular of a shipping location, at least outside of the major cities in the state. Waterloo may be decently-sized among cities in Iowa, but in comparison to the great cities of the U.S. it’s tiny, and this means that there won’t be near as much demand for auto transportation services to or from Waterloo, and thus car shipping to Waterloo is typically harder to find and also more expensive than shipping to or from, say, Des Moines or Cedar Rapids. Auto transporters want to stick close to major cities and metro areas in order to maximize how many customers they can provide services to in a single day.
Waterloo, sadly, doesn’t see a lot of transportation traffic – customers are few and far between and ease of access for carriers is pretty low. Waterloo is accessible via state highways, notably Route 20, which to be fair is pretty long and traverses pretty much the entire state. The only problem is that it doesn’t run through many major cities in Iowa, or to the east or west, though it does run east into Dubuque and then further, connecting to I-90 outside of Chicago, so there’s that. There aren’t a lot of major stops along the route for carriers, though, which usually means more time between customers and thus more money for them to spend – which in turn means higher prices for customers.
