Why all Car Shipping Quotes are Different
If you’ve shipped a car before you likely know a bit about how car shipping quotes are calculated. This post isn’t for you. This post is for the guy who’s brand new to the process, which to be fair is the target audience for a lot of our posts. It’s important to know why car shipping quotes are different just as it’s important to know what type of carrier is best for your vehicle. This information leads to better decisions and, ultimately, better services. Which is why today we want to talk a bit about why all car shipping quotes (or almost all, anyway) tend to be different.
Why Car Shipping Quotes are Different
There are thousands of different companies out there that can ship cars, and there’s a few different kinds of companies that call themselves car transporters. Your main point of contact is the broker. Brokers are great because they find carriers in your area for you, which makes the process faster and cheaper. More importantly, carriers use brokers to keep their trucks full, since they don’t have the time they need to advertise. Booking with a broker tends to make the entire thing cheaper as a result.
But every company prices differently which is the main reason why car shipping quotes are different. And much of this boils down to who they know out there on the road. With a tool such as Central Dispatch (the main load board in the industry) brokers can see what freight is going for on a route and they adjust prices accordingly. But different brokers make different adjustments to the going rates and they all charge different deposits as well. So some companies may be able to get a load from A to B for $650. But others may only be able to do it for $700 while others can charge $600. It depends on who they know on the road, their relationship with the carriers, and how much they are charging for their own services.
