San Antonio is a city in as well as the county seat of Bexar County, Texas. According to the official US Census conducted in 2000, the population of San Antonio was over 1.3 million, though the most recent U.S. Census, conducted in 2010, places the city’s population at 1.6 million.

It is currently the second largest city in the state of Texas and the seventh largest overall in the United States. It is also the principal city of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of over 2 million residents.

San Antonio was founded originally as a Spanish mission and was first constructed in 1691; conflict and oversight changes forced its relocation several times before the mission finally ended up in its current location.

The city itself is likely most famous for being the site of The Alamo, a major battle where over 400 Texan Independents died at the Battle of the Alamo. San Antonio, like the rest of Texas, was admitted as a U.S. State in 1848, and over the course of the next century, the city of San Antonio would grow into a major shipping and industrial center in the south.

Today, the city’s diverse and strong economy has helped San Antonio continue to grow while also avoiding any major economic downfalls; the city has proven adept and avoiding economic hardships, it seems.

During the summer months, average daily highs in San Antonio tend to reach into the mid-to-upper 90’s during the day, and triple-digit highs are not uncommon during the hottest parts of the year.

Overnight summer lows often drop down into the low-to-mid 70’s. Winter brings cooler temperatures, with highs during the day reaching into the mid-to-upper 50’s and overnight lows often dropping down into the mid-to-upper 30’s on average. Snow is relatively uncommon, which only adds to the allure of the city.
