Richmond is a city in and the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia (commonly known as the State of Virginia), and like all other incorporated cities in Virginia, Richmond is an independent city. It is not part of any county, and according to the official US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 200,000; it is also the third largest city in the state of Virginia.

It was founded in 1609 when the Jamestown colony was founded, though it didn’t do well and it remained unsettled for over 100 years. In 1737 it was officially founded and grew quickly as it became a prominent hotbed of anti-British sentiment leading up to and during the American Revolution. It was the capital of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War and was almost completely destroyed during the war; today, however, the city is a bustling metropolitan area, with tourism being a main part of its economy.

During the summer months, temperatures typically hit around 87 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 70 degrees overnight. During the winter months, however, temperatures typically hit around 55 degrees during the day, with lows often dropping down to around 34 degrees overnight.
