Lewiston is a city located in Androscoggin County, Maine. It is the second largest city in the state and has a population of over 38,000, according to the official US Census conducted in 2000. It is a principal city of the Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a part of the larger Portland-Lewiston-South Portland Combined Statistical Area.

Lewiston was founded in 1770, though it wasn’t until 1795 that the city was officially incorporated, and at the time it was a perfect manufacturing town due mainly to the nearby Androscoggin River powering the many mills that dotted the area. After World War I the manufacturing sector of the city began to decline and give way to service-based jobs, which has helped the economy of the city diversify and remain vibrant well into the 21st century.
