Jennings is a city in and the parish seat of Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana, and according to the official US Census the city’s population was over 10,000. It is the principal city of the Jennings Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Jefferson Davis Parish, and it is a part of the Lake Charles-Jennings Combined Statistical Area.

It began its life as a small rail depot and grew mainly because of rice growers and wheat farmers finally having a way to export their product. It was incorporated as a municipality at the turn of the 20th century and the discovery of oil put Jennings on the map. When the oil boom began to decline the city continued to prosper due mainly to the large agricultural base that had developed prior to the boom.
